Eight from Rebellion

Hi all! Today I'm participating in Weekend Writing Warriors where you post eight sentences of your writing from any work, published or not. If you'd like to join in, the link to the main page is here. Sign up, post eight sentences, and then just follow the list to see what other people have up. Read, comment and basically have a good time.

These eight are from my upcoming shifter release, Rebellion, Book 3 in the Lost City Shifters series. Cole is a wolf shifter who's been captured by a rebel group of jaguar shifters after his plane crashes in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.

Cole opened his eyes to slits and waited for the sound to come again. The narrow hole they’d tossed him in eight days ago was pitch-black, the air still, thick and damp. But something was out there, just beyond the grate covering the pit, something—or someone—who wanted to stay hidden. Holding himself to stillness and extending all of his senses, he tried to locate the source of the noise that had woken him. The jungle was raucous even at night and the unfamiliar sounds were still difficult for him to sift through. He could smell the rancid meat they’d set beside his cage, just out of reach. Decaying vegetation. Nothing else save the stench of Yaguara.

Poor little wolf at the mercy of a bunch of vicious cats.

You can find more information about Rebellion and the Lost City Shifters on my website here. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm loving having those couple of extra sentences each week. The story sounds great, Eleri. Hell of a situation to put poor Cole in.

LOL Evil of me, I know, but it was fun to let the heroine do the rescuing for a change:)

Evil author, yes, but captivating too. I'd bet this scene will be a page turner. More please.

Nice excerpt. I can feel how tense he is, stuck there in a "rathole". Definitely makes me want to know what comes next!

Great snippet, as always, Eleri. Very sensory, I can see (and smell) the entire thing.

And now I want to know how how he'll escape---and who's waiting to help him . . .

So even in the world of shifting cats and dogs hate each other. Interesting. Good description of the setting.

Oh great descriptions. I love how he uses his senses just like a wolf would. And such a good hook. Can't wait to find out what's hiding from him.

Wow, now I'm as curious as he is to find out who's out there. Great snippet, Eleri. :)

I like how you sum it all up so well with that last line.
