Growing up, my family's favorite New Year's tradition was sleeping in late, but my husband's family makes a special dish for the New Year called Specken Dicken, a kind of German pancake that's supposed to bring good luck during the coming year. We've combined both traditions in our household. The recipe is here if you'd like to try it. We cut the anise and graham flour back and substitute cooked bacon for the sausage. I admit I was skeptical the first time I tried it, but it's actually very good. It also goes very nicely with Mimosas:)
